How to apply Themes on Windows 7
I have noticed an extremely large amount of people have been having problems installing Windows 7 3rd party themes. I will teach you the basics on how to successfully install Windows 7 themes to your personal computer properly and correctly.
Windows 7 is very similar to Windows Visa. If you like to change your personal computers display and workings as much as I do, I think you might enjoy this tutorial.
–Let’s begin:
Like all Windows Operating Systems, Windows 7 doesn’t allow 3rd party themes to be used by default and you’ll need to patch the 3 most important theme system files to be able to use 3rd party themes in Windows 7:
Uxtheme.dll- Themeui.dll – Themeservice.dll
To keep the tutorial simple I won’t go into specific details.
Step 1. You need to turn off your User Account Control Settings.
Start>Search>Type uac>Click Change User Account Control Settings.
Move the bar down to the last option “Never Notify” and click OK.
NOTE: You will need to restart your computer after you do so.
Step 2. Download VistaGlazz.

This is app is extremely simple, but performs an essential and possibly complicated task for Windows Vista customizers. It patches several DLLs that control Vista’s appearance so that users can alter Vista to their liking. It’s also freeware, making it a viable workaround for those who want to tweak Vista but don’t want to pay for it. It also changes Aero so that it stays in effect on maximized screens. (More info in the download link)
Step 3. Open VistaGlazz and click its 1st icon. That will show you the status of your 3 .dll files that need to be patched in order for your Windows 7 theme to work. Click Patch and apply.
Step 4. Extract your downloaded Windows 7 Theme to your specified location. Locate the theme folder and open. When opened you should see 2 or more files, 1 being a file folder and the other being the theme you want visual on your personal computer. Copy all the items inside of the theme folder. After copied go to Computer>Local Disk C: and locate your windows file folder. Open it. Locate Resources. Then click Themes and paste your Extracted Themes folder.
Step 5. Double click your selected theme to apply. Your computer should immediately apply the theme. NOTE: This might take 1-2 minutes to apply completely.
Step 6. Install the remaining extracted extras, start buttons, wallpapers etc.
Congratulations! Your Windows 7 Theme should be applied and working.
